Advocate low carbon commuting & Promote green public transportation

2016-06-15

Vehicle emission is one of the major contributors to pollution in cities. While in cities public transportation plays an important role in transporting passengers, public buses undertake 60% of the overall passenger transport. Since passenger vehicle emissions contain high levels of nitric oxides and particles compared to other types of vehicles, it’s necessary to prioritize the development of zero-emission buses fueled by new energy. Currently, there are over 500,000 public buses in all the cities in China, and the number is still growing each year. However, there were only more than 50,000 new energy public buses at the beginning of 2016.

CDM Fund, as a national public fund dedicated to addressing climate change, has been committed to improving the urban air quality, reducing urban traffic emission and providing better travel conditions. Since it started investments in 2011, CDM Fund has given full play to the guiding and mobilizing role of public funds, including approving 11 green bus projects in 8 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), with the total amount of concessional loans of 886 million yuan, which are estimated to reduce greenhouse gases emission by 69,005tCO2e annually. It set a good example for reducing air pollution cities.

To further promote the recognition of zero-emission new energy buses, and as part of the campaign on National Low Carbon Day this year, CDM Fund provided posters to over 3,400 zero-emission buses in the 11 green bus projects mentioned above, to promote low carbon travel and call on more people to take zero-emission buses and make their own efforts for low carbon development.
