China to build up low-carbon transport system by 2020

BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) – China's Ministry of Transport (MOT) issued on Monday a guideline on promoting the establishment of a low-carbon transport system by 2020.
The guideline, which highlights a public transport-oriented development mode, is widely regarded as a signal of a quicker pace in expanding the country's urban rail network and optimizing infrastructures in the overall public transport sector.
The ministry also encouraged procurement and use of energy-efficient transport equipments, as parts of the country's efforts to reduce pressure on natural resources and the environment, according to the guideline.
Rail construction and new-energy transportation sectors in China's A-share market are likely to get a boost in the wake of the new policy.
