Modern Forestry Ecological Park Development Project
1.Brief Introduction
The main content of the project is to develop a total mountainous area of 5,323 mu in the western mountain area of Dongjiahe County, Shihe District. 5,000 mu of the area are used for forest tending and planting, including 3,000 mu of Eucommia ulmoides forest, 1,000 mu of rare species of Pteroceltis forest and 1,000 mu of Ginkgo woods. Efforts will also be taken on developing forest economy, including planting 2,000 acres of Chinese herbal medicine (Rhizoma atractylodis and Salvia mainly) under the Eucommia ulmoides forest, and inter-planting 800 acres of tea in Ginkgo woods.
2. Project Approval
The Application Report and the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) Report of the project and other required procedures of the project have been officially approved by the government.

Regarding the environmental and social impacts during construction and operation period, the risk is low and rated as Category C.
A. Environmental Impacts
a. Construction Period
Elements might influence the environment as follows: dust pollution and transportation emission, fertilizer non-point pollution, wastewater, solid waste, noise and vegetation destroy etc.
b. Operation Period
Elements might influence the environment as follows: solid waste, fertilizer non-point pollution, pest and disease prevention, harvest and picking, etc.
B. Social Impacts
a. Construction Period
Elements might influence the society as follows: fire, fertilizer non-point pollution, and pest and disease prevention,etc.

The Henan Xinyang Zhonglin Industrial Group Co., Ltd. has taken mitigation measures corresponding to the impact elements. Besides, the company has established social complaint and appeal mechanism and the local environmental protection bureau and forestry bureau have set up supervision and reporting hotline to encourage community’s supervision on the project. The company has established comprehensive labor health and safety mechanism. There is significant positive influence on resource efficiency and pollution control.
5. Implementation of Environmental and Social Management
The project so far goes smoothly without any occurrence of major environmental and social risks and accidents.
