CBEEX voluntary carbon emission trading makes up over 10pct of global trading

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- China Beijing Environment Exchange (CBEEX) said on Monday that the voluntary carbon emissions trading volume in the CBEEX had reached about 500,000 metric tons (tonnes) over the past five years since it was founded on August 5, 2008.
According to the Bloomberg data, the voluntary carbon emissions trading volume in the CBEEX accounted for about 14 percent of the global trading in 2011.
About 16 clean development mechanism (CDM) projects involving a total of 2.3 million tonnes of trading volume has concluded in the exchange since its establishment. The number of cases of individuals buying carbon trading is nearly 30,000.
Du Shaozhong, chairman of the CBEEX, said that the CBEEX would stick to addressing environmental issues through market economic measures. The CBEEX had become one of the most influential environment equities trading platforms with four major main businesses, including carbon trading, emission trading, energy-saving trading as well as low-carbon transformation service.
Meanwhile, the Beijing municipal government has selected the CBEEX as the pilot carbon trading platform. The CBEEX has completed the system research and development (R&D) and is ready to launch it officially.

CBEEX is an operational organization for open and centralized transaction of environment equity. Through its advanced transaction system and extensive network of membership and partnership, the CBEEX tends to realize optimization of resource allocation, minimization of pollution abatement cost, cost-effectiveness of environmental governance.
